BestMudi breeding goals

Important things, our ideas and chooses by breeding mudis.
By choosing breeding males and females we focus on:
  • Inbreeding
We count COI (coeficient of inbreeding) for every combination of parents we plan. Our "limit" is about 8% for 10 generations - the lower the better.
  • Relation to epileptic mudis or epilepsy carriers
Today there is no litter where both parents would be epilepsy-connection free! You just need to check pedigrees carefuly and wider than only till 4th generation. This list can help you. More "critical" dogs is in pedigree of parents are, lower COI of the litter has to be.
  • Health issues
We check HD, ED, patellas and eyes. For breeding we focus on dogs which are free of dysplasia and eye-diseases. We use rarely in breeding dogs with B hips if there are other benefits of the combination.
  • Character and working abilities
Our breeding dogs are regurarly trained in agility and other dog-sports. Some of them also passed Herding instinct test and Character test for mudis in Hungary.
  • Using parents, Amount of litters
We do not breed our females every year. By our opinion 2-3 litters per female are more than enough in her life. Before breeding the same female again we wait for her first pups how they grow up and how they look like, for their health results, etc.
We also encourage mudi-male owners to make their dogs breedable. The biggest problem in mudi breeding nowdays is to find a good male. Even if the male would have only 1 litter in his life, this will help the mudi breed to make gene pool bigger!

As you can see, there is no "size" or "colour" between our goals. That´s because we don´t focus on these points primarily. Mudi is a rare breed worldwide, so we find inbreeding and health goals the most important now. To focus on size or colour is such a big luxus, which we cann´t take now, if we want to keep the mudi breed healthy for future!
